Description

Terminated fiber optic cable for FTTH connections

The double-terminated fiber optic cable (dual cable) has been designed to enable FTTH connections to be performed easily, quickly, cost-effectively, and with optimal use of materials, allowing for the cabling of the “last mile” with up to 8 single-mode fibers per unit. At both ends of the dual cable, installation-ready FTTH termination boxes are attached. This significantly reduces the installation effort in the apartment or at the connection point to just a few steps. The required individual cable length from the respective FTTH connection to the patch panel or distribution point is determined at the installation site. Once the necessary length is established, the cable is cut. The two reels, each containing half of the DUAL cable upon delivery, are placed into the two provided dispensing boxes. For each turn of the reel, the cable length changes by one meter (+3/-1 cm), either from reel A to reel B or vice versa. After “wrapping,” the dispensers are closed, and the cable is cut. The dispenser box now serves as a rolling aid and can be secured for installation with tape to a heavy object. The remaining cable with the termination box in the second dispenser is labeled with the remaining length and set aside. The laying and installation of the cut cable is carried out from the connection point to the patch panel or transfer point. Ideally, the cable is pushed into an existing conduit; however, it is not mandatory to use an empty conduit. Often, the space in an already occupied conduit is sufficient to push the mini-flex cable through. With a diameter of 3.0 mm or 2.2 mm, this extremely robust cable is particularly well-suited for manual insertion over distances of up to 100 m. The cable is kink-resistant and also features a very high resistance to lateral pressure. This means that the installation of the DUAL cable eliminates a number of common, complex tasks, such as setting up a workplace for splicing on-site, providing equipment, and preparing to blow in a conventional cable or pulling rope, etc. By using a project-specific average length of the DUAL cable, the logistical effort is significantly reduced. The need to stock different lengths is largely eliminated. Additionally, cable waste is greatly reduced, and installation times are shortened.
